Fyrirlestrar á vegum Íslenska stærðfræðafélagsins
Fields-verðlaunin í stærðfræði þykja ein mesta viðurkenning sem stærðfræðingi getur hlotnast. Þau eru veitt á fjögurra ára fresti, einum til fjórum stærðfræðingum sem eru yngri en 40 ára, fyrir meiriháttar framlag til stærðfræðirannsókna. Árið 2022 hlutu Hugo Duminil-Copin, June Huh, James Maynard og Maryna Viazovska verðlaunin. Á fyrirlestrinum munu fjórir stærðfræðingar við Háskóla Íslands halda stutt erindi um verðlaunahafana og rannsóknir þeirra. Fyrirlesararnir eru Anders Claesson, Valentina Giangreco Puletti, Álfheiður Edda Sigurðardóttir og Adam Timar. Fyrirlestrarnir verða ýmist á ensku eða íslensku og eru miðaðir að öllum þeim sem hafa áhuga á stærðfræði, en ekki er gengið út frá því að áhorfendur hafi sérfræðiþekkingu í faginu.

Lecture series of the Icelandic mathematical society
The Fields medal in mathematics is considered as one of the most prestigeous honour that a mathematicican can get. It is awarded every four years, to one to four mathematicians who are younger than 40, for a significant contribution to research in mathematics. In the year 2022, the recipients were Hugo Duminil-Copin, June Huh, James Maynard and Maryna Viazovska. At the lecture, four mathematicians at the University of Iceland will give short presentations about the recipients and their research. The speakers are Anders Claesson, Valentina Giangreco Puletti, Álfheiður Edda Sigurðardóttir and Adam Timar. The lectures will either be in English or Icelandic and are directed towards everyone who is interested in mathematics and it will not be assumed that the audience is proficient in mathematics.
Place: Háskólatorg, stofa HT-105.
Time: Thursday, November 24, 17:00 – 18:00, but the room will remain open for chat.
